Savehollywood alternative12/12/2022 You can roll your eyes, but Tarantino's getting better. "This isn't the celebrity show," he told the magazine Cine-fantastique. #Savehollywood alternative movie(And you don't talk that fast unless you're afraid someone's going to tell you to shut up.) Still, Tarantino couldn't have known how badly his acting would be received, how tacky it would look for a gifted director to want to be something as tawdry as a movie star. You don't cast John Travolta and Bruce Willis in the same movie unless you have a pretty keen seismograph for the fluctuations of fame. So Tarantino planned this all along? Well, he certainly knew his career was in for a hard landing. You think Hollywood and the media slobbered over "Pulp Fiction"? That was before Tarantino threatened to be an actor. The second coming of Quentin Tarantino will be awesome to behold. By the time he returns to directing, everybody will be out of bullets. By turning up in movies like Robert Rodriguez's From Dusk Till Dawn-a funny, craftily written piece of low-grade horror crapola-Tarantino has set up a dummy target: his acting. And, in truth, there's a weird genius in the fact that he kick-started it himself. There was going to be a backlash with or without Tarantino's help: nobody gets that hot that quickly without the media's feeling the need to dump him into the deep freeze. Which sounds exactly right, except that it's exactly wrong. "By acting as if he really did have only 15 minutes of fame," Caryn James wrote in The New York Times recently, "he provoked a career backlash that didn't have to happen."' And he dragged his heels instead of making a follow-up to "Pulp Fiction," neglecting to do the one thing he was put on this earth to do: save Hollywood from itself. He turned in amateurish cameos in movies like "Destiny Turns On the Radio," "Desperado" and the phosphoreseently bad "Four Rooms." He annoyed the hell out of everyone with his breathless geek cool. After making two revelatory movies, "Reservoir Dogs" and "Pulp Fiction," the director became giddy with fame and began fan-eying himself an actor. SUDDENLY THERE ARE PEOPLE WHO think Quentin Tarantino's an idiot.
